Next major release of SimLab Composer

Postby SimLab » Tue Mar 06, 2012 9:42 am

We have been working hard on the next release of SimLab Composer; you should have the beta for the next release early in April.

We will start announcing new features of the next release very soon.

The major features for the next release are now in place.

If you have anything that you hope to get in the next release now is the time to request it.
It may be hard to add major features at this point but let us know what are the things that you would like to see, or the small things that annoyed you and we will do our best to address them in the coming few weeks.

For 3D PDF creation:

A 'save profile' feature to create named user preset values.

(For Rhino) Facility to create 3D PDFs from selected objects only

Some way of saving text in a 3D PDF (I know this is more a restriction of the file type than Simlab, but I can still wish!)

An easy way to bake textures and shadows for saving in a 3D PDF

Great news.
Any plans on Bunkspeed export?

I think they once was same company as Keyshot, and use bip format, but Bunkspeed have changed something from old bip format I think.

First I want to thank you for those suggestions.

but I hope I was clear, at this point we are looking for the small things, as the big features are already in place.

I promise the next version of SimLab Composer will allow you to create better results either you a mechanical designer, architect or a 3D artist.

Hello Sauger,

We have a great respect and many friendships with the Bunkspeed team, currently Bunkspeed products utilize SimLab importers, if you have any suggestions how you think this will be helpful, please email info@simlab-soft.com we will be glad to listen, and we will act soon.

Some type of documentation added for the various values of the material properties panel... Although, some renderheads will already know these terms and what are their effects, Some basics should be added for entry level.

Idea: A slider in rendering options for rounding sharp edges. This would not modify the 3D model, but only affect the rendered output. Rendering with "softer" edges look sometimes a bit better.

Idea: Orthographic cameras for scene arrangement. Positioning and sizing models from various sources is much easier without ANY perspective foreshortening effects. Most (if not all?) other competitors include this, so they must consider it important and I agree.

Thanks.
