SimLab Composer 2013 (3D HTML)

Postby SimLab » Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:12 pm

Using the new version of SimLab Composer the user will be able to export 3D models to html, the html will utilize the WebGL standard, so no plugin or application is needed.

Chrome, FireFox and Safari, will be able to open the files directly without installing any plugin, and without any security issues for the user.

This standard is currently supported as an experimental feature on many of the new tablets and phone browsers.

3D PDF designer templates can be used for exporting WebGL HTML files.

Sample page exported using SimLab Composer can be found here

Also, please consider adding the chrome frame check to the output so IE can view the canvas.. As it is now, the page rejects the IE request outright, some simple changes to the browser detection could have it succeed.

Testing the 3dhtml output, works well on windows locally. Even opening the file outside of the local mongoose server. However, putting the files on the web, I get no content from the page. The page appears without the model.

Is there a setting that needs set at the web server? Is it a local browser security setting?

We can start by looking at firefox as it gives the best webgl support out-of-box.

Just to make sure, exporting the 3D HTML will create an HTML file and a directory with the same name.
Did you move both of them and are they both at the same level in the web server

Yes, both the html file and the assets folder are in a single location. The page is reading the "Braselet_2.jpg" background image from the assets folder but not the dae file.

I believe that we know the reason.
Some of the Windows web servers do not by default support serving the collada files (*.dae)
Admins can add MIME type, or the user can install on a Linux server

take a look at the examplerunning on SimLab Server

We will make sure to have this updates for users with Windows server not enabling dae files
