GLB Importer for Maya - Python/MEL hooks?

I believe Thom Falter had a similar question for Solidworks- but I'm wondering if its at all possible to script importing gltf/glb files into Maya using the plugin. I'm currently working on a script that should import these files automatically- is this possible?
